FEEL IT.

They Got Id

I was informed last night that the horrendous kidnapping case of Elisabeth Fritzel is the 2nd of its kind in Austria in the past two years! In August of 2006, an 18 year old woman was found in the basement of Wolfgang Priklopil, and was identified as Natascha Kampusch, a young girl who had been snatched off the street 8 years prior at only 10 years old. While this man was a complete stranger to her at the time, he did keep her in the same type of "dungeon" that Josef Fritzel did to his own daughter. Although Ms. Kampusch did not endure the sexual abuse Ms. Fritzel did, Kampusch is believed to have developed a kind of "Stockholm Syndrome" where she began to sympathize with her captor and is believed to have health issues due to malnourishment. BBC. 08/06

Wolfgang Priklopil committed suicide upon Kampusch's discovery.

What is with those Austrians anyway?

Could it be???!

Okay, so there are some pretty cool Austrians (Rilke, Schiele, Mozart)-- but then again they were all nutso too. These guys lately though=Creepsville!

Vinny vs. Josef

Is it just me or does Josef Fritzel (the disgusting Austrian man who held his daughter hostage for 24 years and fathered six of her kids) look exactly like scream king Vincent Price??

Seriously y'all, this is messed up.

LEAVE JIMI ALONE!!!

It seems that the media is quickly tiring of current celebs and their dry old naughty bits. After allowing Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian to further their fame with sex tapes, and exploiting the fuck out of every single young vagina in the biz (even Hermione from Harry Potter!), now they've moved on to the dead. No this isn't a necrophilia situation, but more of a vintage one.

First Marilyn Monroe supposedly was filmed having sex (not a huge surprise), but now they are showcasing the REAL Jimi Hendrix Experience!

"According to the sex-film distributor Howie Klein, who sold the tape to Vivid, the film surfaced when a collector discovered a tin labeled “Black Man” in a box of rock memorabilia bought at an unidentified auction in London. NYTimes 4/29/07

Oh, and of course Pamela Des Barres (Groupie Extraordinaire, author of I'm With The Band, and proud carrier of so many STD's I think they are starting to cancel each other out.) was interviewed in the--ahem-- film.

Snoop Baby Dogg

This is slightly embarrassing, but I have had a major urge to become a dog mommy lately. There are so many cute puppy vids on youtube. I plan to adopt from a rescue center, preferably locally at BARC, but I found some awesome guys on petfinder.com too. All the dogs receive their shots from the beginning at both places, which is a major concern, but obtaining the dog from the shelters on the Petfinder site seems a bit more troublesome.

I'm obsessed with Corgis! Check this guy out--

And French Bulldogs!

This video of a Boston Terrier from cuteoverload.com cracks me up:

I Like To Say Things and Read Stuff

I found some pretty cool stuff at Bust's Craftacular yesterday. I made it home with this shirt by Seibei, and the brand new all natural body scrub by ingenuous sister duo, Biggs & Feathebelle. I wanted a ton of other stuff, but it was a bit of a madhouse. I hosted a video about some of the other vendors that should be up on Bust's website soon!
(No jokes about sugary nuts or scrubbing them, plz.)

A friend of mine just posted a link to the site for his newly opened comic book store, Desert Island. Check it out. The store is at 540 metropolitan in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

I really want these books (My birthday is exactly a month from today!!):

Eat the Rich

Yesterday while meandering down the the slumsville turned strip-mall-slash-strip-club that is now Bowery, I found myself inside the hole that was once CBGB and is now the fancy schmancy John Varvatos store. I know there has been a lot of media uproar about the store, and with due cause. The walls of the old club have been preserved (like a museum under squeaky clean plastic sheets), but the rest of the space is pretty anti-CBGB. While John Varvatos' clothes are pretty hot, and I'd love to dress my boyfriend in them, there is no way I'd pay $1200+ for a vintage (USED!!) leather motorcycle jacket. I took a short gander at the small collection of records obviously carefully selected for the store, and  I found The Only Ones' Alone In The Night proudly showcased for 50 bucks! Of course, Varvatos is also selling his Converse All Star collection for $100+ a pop as well-- the more dirt, the more cash. Even though Alice Cooper and Iggy Pop have publicly backed up the designer as a fave, it's still hard to stomach. CBGB had been going downhill in the quality of their musical acts for a long time, but the closing of the place is such a reminder of what is important to people in this city. Money will always rule. The closing of Tonic was even more of a blow, but that's old news and a completely different rant.

With gas prices and food prices skyrocketing, it's tough to see people spending a fortune on something that used to come next to free: Music.

Check out musician Rebecca Moore's advocacy group for helping keep performance spaces open and affordable around the East Village and LES (if there are still any left anyway.)

I'll Have the Quesadilla!

I have been wanting to get into the mixtape madness on muxtape.com, but having no music on my computer at work, my resources have been limited. After hearing Bill Wyman's amazing summer jam, "Je Suis Un Rockstar" jumpstart Dave Black's recent mix yesterday, I got to thinking about all of the songs about being a rock star. For some reason nearly every song happens to be AWESOME.

So here is a rock star themed mix with mostly rap songs on it:
http://thehistoryofmyfuture.muxtape.com/

But my personal favorite is Nickleback's version, plus this video has the Girls Next Door in it, who are also faves.

Then I found this guy's parody "POPSTAR"! MUST WATCH!

Here are some more rock stars:

Deliver Us From Goodness

Man lives in the sunlit world
of what he believes to be reality.
But, there is, unseen by most, an underworld,
a place that is just as real,
but not as brightly lit.....
A DARKSIDE.

This past Monday, I spent my day off on the couch watching a marathon of Tales From The Darkside, the amazing, chilling TV show from the 80's. The opening credits always creeped me out more than the show. I grew up in the sticks of North Carolina, so this show made walking through the woods around my house a near impossibility for fear that something was indeed LURKING behind each tree! Oh, and FUCK going over a covered bridge!

A Lesson A Day from Tales from the Darkside :
  1. Dads are usually mean drunks, and they are always gonna get what's coming to them.
  2. Most men are mean, and will always get what's coming to them.
  3. Kids are either geniuses, evil, or both. (Episode: I Can't Help Saying Goodbye )
  4. Karma is a bitch.
  5. Drugs can make you smarter/powerful. (Episode: The Bitterest Pill )
  6. Brains beat brawn. (Episode: No Strings)
  7. The dark side is always there,
    waiting for us to enter,
    waiting to enter us.
    Until next time,
    try to enjoy the daylight.
muah HAHAHAHAH!

Natalie Sparks It Up?!

Is Devendra a bad influence on Natalie?

Okay, okay, it's photoshopped. I know it's hard to tell.
